How do I save a Claude conversation as PDF?
Short answer: open the chat on claude.ai, press Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C, paste it into the free Chat to PDF tool and press Save as PDF. You get a clean PDF of the conversation — each message labelled “You” or “Claude”, code blocks, tables and math intact, on a white page even if you use Claude in dark mode. No install, no sign-up, no watermark, and nothing is uploaded.
Step by step
- Open the conversation on claude.ai in your browser.
- Click anywhere in the conversation, then press Ctrl+A and Ctrl+C (⌘ on a Mac).
- Open the free Chat to PDF tool and paste. Each message appears in the preview, labelled “You” or “Claude”.
- Check the title (it becomes the file name), press Save as PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print window. Prefer plain text? Press Download Markdown.
Chat to PDF — free web tool
Paste a ChatGPT or Claude conversation and save it as a clean PDF or Markdown. Runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.
Open Chat to PDFWhat the PDF looks like
- A title, then every turn in order, labelled You or Claude — no sidebar, message box or buttons.
- Code blocks with their language name, wrapped so long lines are not cut off.
- Tables with their columns; math shown as formulas, not raw TeX.
- Dark text on a white page, whatever theme you use in Claude.
- Selectable, searchable text — your browser’s print engine makes the PDF, not a screenshot.
- Your choice of paper size (US Letter or A4), with or without images and the You / Claude labels.

Saving many Claude chats? Use your data export
Anthropic’s help article “How can I export my Claude data?” describes the built-in export: click your initials, open Settings → Privacy and press Export data. You get a download link by email; it expires 24 hours after delivery. Open conversations.json from the export in Chat to PDF, filter by title, pick a conversation and save it.
One click from the chat: the Pressleaf extension
The Pressleaf Chrome extension (coming to the Chrome Web Store) saves the open Claude conversation without copy and paste. Click its icon or press Alt+Shift+P: it recognises claude.ai and picks Chat mode. Press Save as PDF and Pressleaf copies the turns into a clean page in a new tab — labelled, code and math kept, on white — and opens Chrome’s print window. Pressleaf Pro skips that window and saves straight to Downloads. Save Markdown gives you a text copy instead. It works the same on ChatGPT and Gemini.

Questions
Does Claude have a built-in PDF export?
Not for a single chat. Claude’s data export (your initials → Settings → Privacy → Export data) emails you a download link for your account data, and Anthropic says the link expires 24 hours after delivery. Open the conversations.json file from that export in Chat to PDF, pick a conversation and save it as a PDF.
Will the PDF be dark if I use Claude in dark mode?
No. Both Chat to PDF and the Pressleaf extension lay the conversation out on a clean white page with dark text, whatever theme you use in Claude.
Are code blocks, tables and math kept?
Yes. Code blocks keep their spacing and language name and wrap instead of being cut off, tables keep their columns, and math is shown as real formulas.
Can I paste a Claude share link?
Open the share link in your browser, then copy the page (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C) and paste it. Chat to PDF does not download links for you, so the conversation stays on your device.
Is my conversation uploaded?
No. Chat to PDF runs in your browser and the page is not allowed to make network requests. The extension makes the PDF with Chrome on your computer too.
Is it free?
Yes. Chat to PDF and the Pressleaf extension save PDFs with no daily limit, no watermark and no account.
