Save a page behind a login as PDF — PDFCrowd alternative that runs locally
Short answer: use Pressleaf. It makes the PDF inside your own browser, with Chrome’s print engine, from the page you already have open — so pages behind a login, members-only articles and company intranet pages save just like public ones. The PDFCrowd “Save as PDF” extension is powered by the PDFCrowd online service, and its store listing says it is not possible to create PDFs from pages that require a login. Pressleaf is free, unlimited, needs no account and never uploads page content.
Step by step
- Sign in and open the page you want to keep — an online course, a members-only article, a dashboard, an intranet page or a web app.
- Click the Pressleaf icon (or press Alt+Shift+P, or right-click → Save page as PDF).
- Choose Article for just the content, Whole page for the full layout, or Chat on ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini.
- Press Save as PDF and pick Save as PDF in Chrome’s print window. The PDF is saved on your computer.

Why local matters for logged-in pages
A page behind a login only exists for you: it is shown in your browser because you are signed in. Pressleaf works on that copy, right in your tab — it removes menus, ads, cookie banners and sticky bars, loads lazy images, and then Chrome prints it to PDF on your computer. Nothing needs to fetch the page again, so the login is never a problem, and private pages stay private.

Questions
Why does the PDFCrowd extension not work on logged-in pages?
Its Chrome Web Store listing says the add-on is “powered by the PDFCrowd HTML to PDF online service” and that, for security reasons, it is not possible to create PDFs from pages that require a login, such as webmail, online banking or shopping carts.
How can Pressleaf save pages that need a login?
Pressleaf prepares the page that is already open in your tab and hands it to Chrome’s own print engine on your computer. Nothing has to sign in again or download the page a second time, so whatever you can see, you can save.
Is the page content uploaded anywhere?
No. Page content never leaves your computer. The only thing Pressleaf sends to us is a random ID used to check a Pro license.
Does it work on company intranets and web apps?
Yes. Intranet pages, internal wikis, online course pages, dashboards and other signed-in web apps print the same way as public pages.
Do I have to give Pressleaf my password?
No. Pressleaf never asks for a login. You sign in to the site as usual; Pressleaf can read a page only after you click it, press its shortcut or use its right-click menu.
Is the text in the PDF selectable?
Yes. Chrome makes the PDF, so text can be selected, copied and searched, and math, code and non-Latin scripts keep their formatting.
Is it free?
Yes. Saving PDFs with Pressleaf is free with no daily limit, no watermark and no account.
